Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking dish (9x9 inch or similar)
  • Mixing bowl (for mixing cake mix and butter)
  • Measuring spoons/cups
  • Spatula (for spreading the cake mix)
  • Knife (optional, for cutting butter)

Ingredients

  • 1 can (21 oz) Cherry pie filling
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) Yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup Water (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures the cobbler bakes evenly and reaches the perfect golden brown color.
  • Prepare the baking dish: Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Then, pour the cherry pie filling into the dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom. If you’re using canned cherries, drain some of the syrup to avoid making the cobbler too soggy.
  • Add the cake mix: Open the box of yellow cake mix and sprinkle it evenly over the cherry pie filling. Do not stir the mix in; just cover the cherries with it as evenly as possible.
  • Add the butter: Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or on the stove. Once melted, drizzle it evenly over the top of the cake mix. The butter will help create that crisp, golden topping during baking.
  • Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbly. The cobbler is done when the cake mix has formed a nice golden topping that is fully cooked.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Once done, remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, and consider adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top for a delicious treat

Notes

This cherry cobbler made with cake mix is a simple dessert suitable for both novice & experienced bakers. The recipe offers a quick & easy way to satisfy your sweet cravings. Feel free to get creative by adding vanilla extract or cinnamon to the cake mix for extra flavor. You can also use a different cake mix flavor, like white or chocolate, instead of yellow for a unique twist. If fresh cherries are not in season, canned cherries work well & are convenient. This cherry cobbler will be a hit whether served at a family gathering a potluck or a cozy evening at home.
