Equipment

  • 9x13 inch Baking Dish For baking the dump cake.
  • Mixing bowls To mix the cream cheese filling and cake mix.
  • Electric Mixer (optional) For blending the cream cheese and powdered sugar (you can also mix by hand).
  • Measuring cups and spoons To measure ingredients like butter, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  • Spatula or Spoon For spreading and layering the ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Strawberry cake mix Use any preferred brand of cake mix.
  • 8 oz Cream cheese Softened for easy blending.
  • 1/2 cup Butter, melted Can use salted or unsalted butter.
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar Sifted for a smoother mixture.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract recommended.
  • 1-2 cups Fresh strawberries Sliced, adjust to preference.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare the cake mix: In a large bowl, prepare the strawberry cake mix according to the package instructions. Spread the cake batter evenly in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Make the cream cheese layer: In a separate bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Assemble the cake: Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter in the baking dish. Spread it gently, but don’t worry about covering the cake completely.
  • Add butter: Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the cake and cream cheese layers.
  • Top with strawberries: Evenly distribute the sliced fresh strawberries on top of the cake mixture.
  • Bake the cake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Cool and serve: Let the cake cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

You can make it sweeter or less sweet by adding more or less powdered sugar to the cream cheese mix. Use fresh strawberries if possible, but frozen strawberries work, too, after thawing and draining them. For extra texture, top with chopped nuts or granola before baking. Serve warm for a gooey dessert or chilled for a cool treat. You can also use other fruits like raspberries, blueberries, or peaches instead of strawberries.
